You have been summonsed here this morning by the God of the whole universe. We are not here on our own authority. We are not here in our own name. We are not here assembled hoping to accomplish something by our power, by our strength, by our wisdom.
You are summonsed here this morning by King Jesus, the Lord of all Lords, the King of all Kings and in His name. He has summonsed you here having all authority in heaven and on earth, having made satisfaction for sin, he has sat down at the right hand of the Father having spoiled the principalities and powers of this world, having reconciled all things to Himself having made peace through the blood of His cross. He holds the keys death and hades in His hand, and He rules all things.
This means among many things that there is no room for your envy, no room for your resentment, no room for your jealousy, no room for coveting the blessings or situation of others, no room for bitterness at all. How can you look sideways when the Lord of the Universe looks you in the eyes? How can you fear what you don’t have? How can you resent what you have not been given? How can you murder your brother or your sister in your heart when Jesus, the lamb who was slain, the lamb who takes away the sins of the world, sits on His throne in glory?
You are here by His grace. You are here because of His great love for you. Do not look sideways. Do not apply this grace to the one sitting next to you or behind you. This grace is for you and to you. This grace summons you now.
