As we gather for worship, hear the words of Psalm 100: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, and bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Hear this: You have not been summonsed here to make a respectable appearance in a religious assembly. You have not been summonsed here to go through the motions of some ritual. You have not been summonsed here to mechanically repeat your lessons. You have not been summonsed here to compete with others, to gossip, to envy, or to worry. You have been summonsed here this morning to worship. You have been summonsed here to make a joyful noise to the Lord. You have been summonsed here to serve the Lord with gladness, so sing to Him with all your heart and mind and soul. You have been summonsed here so that you might remember and know that the Lord Jesus, He is God. He made us: we are His sheep. You have been summonsed here to thank Him, to bless Him because He is good.
He is good because He hears our prayers. He is good because He does not let our foot slip. He is good because He heals the sick. He is good because He raises up the hurting and the broken. And He is good because His steadfast love never fails, and He goes with us down into the valley of the shadow of death, and He promises to never leave us or forsake us. You worry, you complain, you forget, you doubt, you change, you fall, but the Lord God Omnipotent Reigns. He does not change. He does not forget. He does not sleep. He does not doubt. He does not fail. He is steadfast. He is loyal. He is faithful. He is good.
